Baylor Loses First Game In Blowout vs. Michigan State
The No. 6 Baylor Bears suffered their first loss of the 2023-24 as they were blown out by Michigan State, 88-64, in Detroit, Mich., on Saturday afternoon.
The game was played at Little Caesar’s Arena as part of the Motor City Invitational. Before the season, it was envisioned as a matchup of Top 25 teams.
The Bears (9-1) entered undefeated at in the Top 10. The Spartans (5-5) entered under .500 and tied for last place in the Big Ten Conference.
The script flipped in the first half as the Bears fell behind by 28 points, 45-17, at halftime.
The root was shooting. The Spartans were lights out, as they shot 63 percent from the floor, 71 percent from the 3-point line and 100 percent from the free-throw line.
Baylor’s halftime shooting slash was its worst of the season — 32 percent from the floor, 20 percent from the 3-point line and 20 percent from the free-throw line (1-for-5). Michigan also turned Baylor’s 11 first-half turnovers into 18 points.
The Bears shot better in the second half — 60 percent. But Michigan State still shot better at 63 percent.
The Bears saw two players reach double figures. Freshman Yves Missi scored 11 points, while RayJ Dennis had 11 points.
For Michigan State, Tyson Walker scored a game-high 25 points. A.J. Hoggard scored 14 points and Tre Holloman added 11 points.
Baylor’s next game isn’t any easier, as the Bears will face Duke next week in New York City.
