BYU and Iowa State Lead 2023 Big 12 Football Home Attendance
While Iowa State and BYU may not have finished the season off with a Big 12 title game appearance in 2023, their fans showed out and supported their team more than anyone else in the league.
Iowa State Athletic Director Jamie Pollard released a graphic on Saturday ranking the average home football attendance with BYU (61,944) and Iowa State (60,384) ranking first and second.
Pollard’s graphic highlighted each future team in the Big 12 Conference’s average home attendance including the Four Sorner schools, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah.
BYU and Iowa State were the only schools in the Big 12 to break the 60,000 mark while six different schools all averaged upwards of 50,000 fans. Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Utah, Kansas State, and West Virginia checked in in that order while Arizona State, TCU, Arizona, Kansas, UCF, and Baylor all ranked in the 40,000 range. The list rounded out with only two teams below the 40k mark with Cincinnati’s average attendance at 38,193 and Houston’s being 36,021.
While things can change quickly in college athletics through stadium upgrades, coaching staff changes, and new rosters, the BYU Cougars and the Iowa State Cyclones reigned supreme in 2023 earning the honor of the highest attendance number among active Big 12 teams.
