Houston Loses Terrence Arceneaux For Rest of Season

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Rutgers at Houston

The Houston Cougars came up with a big win over Texas A&M on Saturday but they also suffered a big loss for the rest of the season.

After the No. 4 Cougars’ 70-66 win over the Aggies, Houston (11-0) coach Kelvin Sampson revealed that guard Terrence Arceneaux suffered a torn Achilles injury and will miss the rest of the season, per the Houston Chronicle.

Arceneaux played just six minutes before suffering the injury, as he didn’t score a point and bloeked a shot.

He’s averaging six points and five rebounds for the season, his second with the Cougars. He slid into a bench role with the additions of veteran guards L.J. Cryer (Baylor) and Damian Dunn (Temple) via the transfer portal.

Arceneaux was selected All-Freshman by the American Athletic Conference last season after he averaged three points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.6 steals per game in 34 games. But his play came around toward the end of the season. In the AAC title game against Memphis, Arceneaux made his first career start, as he scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds.

Houston signed him out of Beaumont United High School, where he was rated No. 66 nationally by ESPN and No. 69 by SI99. ESPN, 247Sports and Rivals all rated him a four-star player. He chose Houston over Oklahoma, Texas A&M and UNLV.

Houston has two more non-conference games before it starts Big 12 play. The Cougars host Texas State on Thursday and Penn on Dec. 30. The Cougars then host West Virginia in its Big 12 opener on Jan. 6.
