Former Houston Wide Receiver Matthew Golden Transfers to Texas
While the transfer portal provides the opportunity for teams to lose key players through outgoing departures, it also has the ability to help a team bring in key players each offseason.
Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns recently added a new name to their squad ahead of the 2024 season with the commitment of former Houston wide receiver Matthew Golden.
Golden was one of the lone bright spots for Dana Holgorsen’s Cougars in the 2023 season as he made some major plays for Houston during his sophomore season. Golden capped off his year with 38 catches for 404 yards and six touchdowns and was also a major contributor on special teams.
Coming out of high school, Golden was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and checked in as the nation’s 150th-ranked player. He also was listed as the 25th-ranked receiver in his class and the 25th-ranked player in the state of Texas.
Golden became the Longhorns first addition through the transfer portal this offseason, and with the portal already featuring a record number of players, that number should continue to climb for Steve Sarkisian’s squad.
