Former Florida Commit Xavier Filsaime Says ‘God Told Him’ to Flip to Texas

NCAA Football: Texas at Texas Tech

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns added a big name to the Class of 2024 with the commitment of five-star safety Xavier Filsaime.

Filsaime originally committed to Florida after receiving offers from 34 different schools, but after what Filsaime referred to as an intervention from God, the Texas native has now flipped his choice from Florida to Texas.

Filsaime spoke on the decision to flip from Florida to Texas with On3’s Hayes Fawcett and mentioned, “It was God who told me.”

Xavier Filsaime is listed as a five-star prospect in the Class of 2024 by the 247Sports index and currently checks in as the nation’s 30th-ranked prospect. He is also listed as the second-ranked player at his position, and the seventh-ranked player in the state of Texas.

National Scouting Analyst Gabe Brooks spoke on the future path for Filsaime saying, “Early in senior season, but represents one of the elite safeties in the 2024 class. Filsaime can give you snaps at cornerback, nickel, over the top, and in the box thanks to his physical prowess and athleticism. He projects as a potential high-major impact player with traits that could lead to early-round NFL Draft upside.”

Filsaime became the Longhorns’ 22nd commitment in the Class of 2024, joining a cast of four five-stars, 15 four-stars, and three three-star prospects heading for Austin ahead of the 2024 college football season.
