West Virginia C Jesse Edwards Out Four Weeks with Fractured Wrist
West Virginia Basketball just cannot catch a break this season. Following the loss of Bob Huggins this summer, an ongoing saga with the NCAA over eligibility, and more, Monday’s news surrounding Jesse Edwards isn’t going to make things any easier.
According to a recent report from West Virginia Athletics, senior center Jesse Edwards will miss roughly four weeks due to a fractured right wrist.
The loss for the Mountaineers is a big one as Edwards has been one of the most consistent pieces of the West Virginia basketball team this season. The Netherlands native has averaged 14.8 points and 8.7 rebounds on 55.7% shooting.
Edwards spent the previous four seasons at Syracuse where he earned some serious NBA looks before electing to transfer to West Virginia.
With Edwards sidelined with a right wrist injury, he will likely miss games against Radford, Toledo, Ohio State, No. 4 Houston, Kansas State, and No. 19 Texas. The Big 12 Conference features some of the best teams in the nation this season and if Edwards can get back on the floor for the January 17th matchup against No. 11 Oklahoma, Josh Eilert’s squad will have a much better chance of pulling off an upset.
West Virginia takes the court next on Wednesday December 20th against Radford at 6:00 PM CT in Morgantown.
