Kansas Lands Highest-Rated High School Recruit Ever in Deshawn Warner

NCAA Football: Oklahoma at Kansas

Lance Leipold led Kansas to its first eight-win season since 2007 in just his third year with the program and has a chance to make that nine wins in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl next week.

Before KU gets there though, they must begin the process of wrapping up their 2024 recruiting class, as Wednesday is Early Signing Day.

The Jayhawks been elevating their game under Leipold and it’s beginning to show up on the recruiting trail, as they signed the highest-rated player in program history on Wednesday, four-star defensive end Deshawn Warner.

It wasn’t an easy battle for Kansas either, as they had to fend off midseason pushes from both Ohio State and Michigan to keep him committed to Leipold and the Jayhawks. Now, he’s locked in with KU, and he looks to be a star in the making.

Warner is listed at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, and is the No. 3 player in the state of Arizona. He’s ranked as the No. 10 edge rusher in the class of 2024 and the No. 148 player in the class of 2024. With an incredibly high ceiling and an instant need for players of his caliber, it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see Warner making an impact for Kansas in 2024.

With Ohio State and Michigan pushing late, along with visits to Washington and Texas, both of whom are in the College Football Playoff, there’s no doubt that Warner is a sought-after member of the 2024 class, and he’ll have a chance to be a bonafide star for the Jayhawks over the next few seasons.
