Travis Kelce Says He Wants to Play Basketball at West Virginia for Bob Huggins
While Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is known for many different reasons in the world of professional sports, basketball isn’t really one of them.
Kelce mentioned on a recent episode of the New Heights Podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, that fans were very close to seeing Kelce on the basketball court at West Virginia under Bob Huggins.
“West Virginia was where I wanted to play basketball,” Kelce said. “I wanted to play for coach Bob Huggins, the legendary Huggy, Huggy bear. Cincinnati Bearcat legend, he actually played at West Virginia then coached there for such a long time. I’m not even sure I would have went there if I would have had a full scholarship the first year I went. Either way I fell in love with how coach Huggins ran his program and knew he was a kind of a coach that I would respect and want to play for.”
While Kelce elected to commit to Cincinnati to play football and went on to have a legendary career, it is pretty wild to consider how his career would have played out in Morgantown.
Huggins’ career in Morgantown came to an unfortunate end in the summer of 2023 after being dismissed from the program following a DUI arrest in Pittsburgh. While Kelce could have made the call to become a Mountaineer coming out of high school, his choice to attend UC set him up with a hall-of-fame career with the Kansas City Chiefs.
