Texas QB Arch Manning Earning Three Times Brock Purdy’s NFL Salary
While NIL money has completely changed the game for collegiate athletes, coaches, and universities everywhere, the addition of players earning money off their name, image, and likeness has also introduced some strange scenarios among players at the professional level.
Former Oklahoma Sooner Tony Casillas shared a graphic on Thursday that highlighted the difference between San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy‘s annual salary and that of Texas quarterback Arch Manning.
Casillas’ graphic showed that despite never having started a game in college football, Texas quarterback Arch Manning is earning three times as much money as the NFL’s MVP front-runner, Brock Purdy.
Casillas mentioned, “Something’s wrong with this picture. Dudes haven’t played a snap in college football and are getting paid too much dinero. College football will never be the same.”
While athletes earning money off of their name, image, and likeness is now an integral part of the game of college football, the fact that a player who has yet to hit the field as a starter in college is tripling Purdy’s annual earnings despite playing in an NFC Championship and becoming one of the faces of the NFL is beyond absurd.
To Purdy’s credit, he was selected as the last pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and was more than likely not expected to become the player he turned out to be in such a short time.
While Manning is currently swamping players at the NFL level despite not seeing the field, he will serve as the Longhorns’ backup throughout the college football playoffs after Maalik Murphy elected to hit the transfer portal on December 13th.
