Look: Kansas and UNLV Players Scuffle After Bowl Game
Kansas overcame 210 yards in penalties and three turnovers to defeat UNLV in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Tuesday night, 49-36.
The Jayhawks had plenty of reasons why they could’ve lost the game, but found ways to overcome adversity and cap off their season with a victory, moving them to 9-4 on the year. Jason Bean put on one hell of a show in his final game with Kansas, throwing for 449 yards and six touchdowns in the contest.
It was an emotional night for both teams, as several players appeared in their final games at the college level.
After the final whistle was blown, things got a bit heated between the squads as Kansas took a final knee and UNLV couldn’t stand to see their season end with a loss.
Despite things getting out of control at first, it appears that officials and coaches did a good job de-escalating the situation before things got totally out of hand.
That was the first time all night that the officials did any sort of favors for either team, as 27 penalties were accepted in this game (Guaranteed Rate Bowl record), including four personal fouls (all on KU) and six unsportsmanlike conduct penalties (four on UNLV, two on Kansas).
Nonetheless, Kansas won the game and moved to 9-4 on the season, marking their best finish since that magical Orange Bowl season in 2007.
The Jayhawks and Rebels will meet again next season, as KU will host UNLV on September 14 in Lawrence.
