Three Big 12 Prop Bets to Watch in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, West Virginia vs. North Carolina

NCAA Football: LIU at West Virginia

There are two things in life that everyone loves, watching college football and making money. In today’s story, I’m going to try to help you accomplish both.

As the West Virginia Mountaineers get set to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in the 2023 Duke’s Mayo Bowl, we here at Heartland College Sports want to provide you with three prop bets to keep your eyes on as well as a superstar staff parlay.

GARRETT GREENE ANYTIME TD

I’ll keep it short and sweet, with standout freshman running back Jahiem White in the backfield for West Virginia, the Tar Heels are going to allocate a lot of resources to stopping him. With a stacked box for White, I fully expect West Virginia offensive coordinator Chad Scott to get Garrett Greene out of the pocket and on the move.

In addition to the overall game plan for West Virginia in the Mayo Bowl, Garrett Greene has been a touchdown machine in 2023 accounting for 13 scores on the ground. Greene and the Mountaineers found success in the rushing attack against Baylor and Cincinnati in the final two weeks of the regular season where Greene slipped into the end zone five times.

North Carolina is a bottom-tier team in the ACC at stopping the run as opponents are averaging 163.1 yards per game on the ground which checks in at 11th place in the conference. West Virginia on the other hand averages the most rushing yards of any team in the Big 12 with 234.3 YPG which is good for fourth in the nation.

KOLE TAYLOR 30.5+ RECEIVING YARDS

While the focal point of West Virginia’s offense is their impressive rushing attack, North Carolina is awful at defending the pass. The Tar Heels gave up the most yards of anyone in the ACC last season through the air with 242.3 yards allowed per game.

West Virginia’s passing attack wasn’t great by any means averaging just 203.8 yards through the air per game but I expect the Mountaineers to capitalize on the mismatch against North Carolina.

The 6-foot-7 tight end Kole Taylor finished off the 2023 season with 33 grabs for 411 yards and four scores and should have a prominent role against UNC on Wednesday. His 12.5 average yards per catch pair well with the prop bet and should make for a somewhat comfortable cover in the Mayo Bowl.

GARRETT GREENE 213.5+ PASSING YARDS

For all the reasons listed above in the Kole Taylor pick, I feel like Garrett Greene will cruise to his over which is currently listed at 213.5.

While this game does feature a somewhat lackluster passing attack from West Virginia, Big 12 quarterbacks have been spectacular through the air so far this bowl season. The three quarterbacks to hit the field for the Big 12 Conference have combined for a total of 903 passing yards and 11 touchdowns through three bowl games.

While the bet might stress out some betters in the 2023 Duke’s Mayo Bowl, I personally will not be shying away from Garrett Greene carving up the worst defense in the ACC.

SUPERSTAR STAFF PARLAY +700 ODDS

  • Kole Taylor Over 30.5 Receiving Yards
  • Jahiem White Over 113.5 Rushing Yards
  • Garrett Greene Alternate Over 200 Passing Yards
  • North Carolina Under 31.5 Total Points
  • West Virginia Over 29.5 Total Points

The bets outlined in the HCS Superstar Staff Parlay all coincide with Neal Brown’s squad taking care of business against North Carolina in the 2023 Duke’s Mayo Bowl. While nothing is ever set in stone in the world of sports betting, I feel pretty good about each bet outlined in this article. Have fun, bet smart, enjoy the game, and let’s go make some money!
