Oklahoma Lands No. 1 Long Snapper in 2025 Class
Oklahoma’s special teams unit has been something of a sore spot for Sooner fans in 2023, with muffed kicks, muffed punts, missed field goals, and blocked punts all costing them precious points or field positions at some point or another.
Placekicker Zach Schmit has been the lightning rod for a good portion of the fan base, as his field goal accuracy has been inconsistent all season long. In order to address that, the Sooners have gone out and landed one of the top kickers in the 2024 class, with Liam Evans out of Moore High School, just up the road from Norman.
Evans is ranked as the No. 7 overall kicker in the class of 2024, according to Kohl’s Kicking, and will be a major addition to the Sooners’ roster heading onto next season.
Although it’s said that lightning doesn’t strike twice, that appears to be exactly what’s happened for Oklahoma when it comes to pulling elite special teams talent out of Moore. Seth Freeman, a junior at Moore High School and teammate of Liam Evans, is rated as the No. 1 long-snapper in the Class of 2025 and is now a member of the Sooners 2025 class as a verbal commit.
Oklahoma special teams’ coach Jay Nunez has to be excited about this one, as OU’s current long-snapper Ethan Lane, is a redshirt junior and will be out of eligibility after the 2024 season. With an elite option at the position now in tow, the Sooners can focus on filling other roster issues.
Listed at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, Freeman will have some weight to add before being in the middle of an Oklahoma special teams unit, but has all the intangibles to be a consistent snapper for the major program just down the highway.
“Freeman has set the standard in the 2025 class at every Kohl’s Snapping Camp he attends,” Kohl’s writes. “He has the type of precision and repeatability that only comes from hard work and dedication to his craft.”
