Watch: Texas Players Try To Pronounce Common New Orleans Lingo
The Texas Longhorns are gearing up for the program’s biggest game in recent memory against No. 2 Washington in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
While practice and preparation for the game are at the forefront of the players and coaches’ minds, it’s also important for them to enjoy the process and the experience that comes along with a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl.
On Thursday, Texas players were having a bit of fun on the practice field, as they were asked to try and pronounce some of the cajun lingo that they might come across in New Orleans, a.k.a. NOLA.
If you’ve never been to The Big Easy, your head might spin trying to pronounce these words. Having been there, the dialect and annunciation is something that can only come with time, because there’s no way I’ll ever use words like Tchoupitoulas or Lagniappe in a sentence… wait.
With a few players from the area, at least the players that are unfamiliar have some help learning a new language. The good news is, once Texas is inside the Superdome, all that will matter is what’s going on between the sidelines, and that is a language that they all speak very well.
Texas and Washington will kick off the 2024 Allstate Sugar Bowl on Monday, January 1, at 7:45 p.m. CT, with coverage provided by ESPN.
