Shaka Smart Gets Roasted on Social Media for Acting as a Defender vs. Creighton
Marquette head coach Shaka Smart found himself as the source of social media controversy on Saturday night when video surface of Smart seemingly acting as a sixth defender on the court during a Creighton possession.
Here’s a look at the play.
Smart clearly cuts off Creighton’s Baylor Scheierman on the baseline drive attempt. No. 10 Marquette would go on to win the game 72-67 over No. 22 Creighton in the Big East showdown.
Since leaving Texas following the 2020-21 season, Smart has had a resurgence at Marquette, including a first place in the Big East last season when his program went 29-7 overall and 17-3 in the conference. But the Golden Eagles were knocked out of the NCAA Tournament in the Round of 32 as a No. 2 seed by No. 7 seed Michigan State.
However, with a Top 10 team this season, and a chance to squeeze in the occasional 6 on 5, things are looking up, once again, for Marquette.
