Texas QB Arch Manning Shoots Down Rumors of Transferring
While Texas quarterback Arch Manning has constantly rejected the idea of entering his name into the transfer portal, with sophomore Quinn Ewers considering a possible return to Texas in 2024, Manning’s name is still a hot commodity.
Manning shot down rumors about a possible transfer decision at Sugar Bowl media availability on Saturday mentioning, “I haven’t looked into transferring at all.”
Manning’s full comments surrounding the idea of transferring read, “Obviously there’s always rumors, especially nowadays. I haven’t looked into transferring at all. I’m just focused on developing and helping this team any way I can and hopefully, one day playing for the University of Texas like I’ve always wanted to.”
While Manning silenced questions surrounding his future at Texas, he was also asked what would happen should Quinn Ewers return in 2024.
“It’s never fun being a backup and sitting,” Manning said. “Each person’s journey is different. I’m going to work hard, not blink an eye, help Quinn be the best quarterback he can be, and try to get better along the way.”
The Longhorns have a big matchup with the Washington Huskies in the Sugar Bowl set for January 1st where Manning will operate as the Longhorns’ backup quarterback following the departure of Maalik Murphy.
While it’s tough to determine what would actually happen in the event that Quinn Ewers returns as a Longhorn in 2024, Steve Sarkisian’s group has a massive task ahead to focus on in Monday’s game with Washington. The Sugar Bowl will kick off at 7:45 p.m. CT on Monday, January 1, on ESPN, with the winner heading to the National Championship to face either Alabama or Michigan at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
