Washington’s Bralen Trice Wants to ‘Smack’ Texas Longhorns
While most teams usually try and avoid giving opponents extra motivation ahead of big games in the College Football Playoff, Washington is not like most teams.
The Huskies have made it abundantly clear that they are more than ready to face Texas on New Year’s Day with junior edge rusher Bralen Trice telling ESPN’s Andrea Adelson, “I want to go out there and smack them. You know, I don’t want it to be a close game. I want it to be pretty lopsided in our favor.”
Trice continued by saying, “I think it’s crazy. Just the level of disrespect we get. I can’t really understand it, but it helps us because it makes us have our backs against the wall as we go into these games, ready to play even harder because we are the underdogs. You don’t take anything for granted out there. We’re grateful to be in the position we’re at because of the hard work we put in. We can be the underdog. We can be on top, and we’ll come out with the win.”
While Washington finished off the regular season with a perfect 13-0 record, the Huskies have not faced a defensive line like Texas yet this season. That didn’t stop Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. from taking a shot at both Texas and the Big 12 during media availability when he said, “I’m not going to lie, their D-line is good. But at the same time, they haven’t played our o-line. They play good ball, but I wouldn’t say we’re playing the 49ers’ D-line or the Eagles’ D-line, so we’ll be good.”
If it hasn’t been made abundantly clear yet that Texas looks its best when trash talk comes out I don’t know what to tell you. The Longhorns put up 56 points against Texas Tech in the final week of the season after embracing the villain role in the eyes of Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark.
Trice finished off his statements by answering a question as to why he thought the Huskies were listed as underdogs in the matchup which prompted the response, “I don’t know. I couldn’t tell you.”
The Sugar Bowl will kick off at 7:45 p.m. CT on Monday, January 1, on ESPN, with the winner heading to the National Championship to face either Alabama or Michigan at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
