Baylor Surges, Texas Falls in Latest Women’s Basketball AP Poll
The Big 12 saw five of its teams make the AP Top 25 Women’s Basketball Top 25, released on Monday after Week 8 of the season and the first round of conference play.
Those teams included:
Baylor at No. 6 (No. 10 last week);
Texas at No. 10 (No. 5 last week);
Kansas State at No. 11 (No. 11 last week);
TCU at No. 23 (No. 23 last week);
West Virginia at No. 24 (No. 25 last week)
Texas (13-1, 0-1)) beat Jackson State in its final tune-up before Big 12 play began, 97-52. After that, the Longhorns hosted Baylor on Saturday and lost, 85-79. It was Texas’s first game after finding out guard Rori Harmon will miss the season after tearing her ACL. Texas is on the road this week at Texas Tech and West Virginia.
Baylor (12-0, 1-0) was off last week until it beat Texas. Baylor will be at home all week, starting with a Wednesday contest against TCU, followed by a Saturday game with Houston.
Kansas State (13-1, 1-0) traveled to Cincinnati to open Big 12 action on Saturday and won, 66-41. Kansas State will host Houston on Wednesday and travel to UCF on Saturday.
TCU (14-0, 1-0) hosted BYU on Saturday to open Big 12 play and won, 81-67. Along with going to Baylor on Wednesday, the Horned Frogs host Oklahoma State on Saturday.
West Virginia (12-0, 1-0) traveled to Kansas to face the Jayhawks in their Big 12 opener on Saturday and won, 85-60. West Virginia will host Cincinnati on Wednesday and Texas on Saturday.
