How To Watch Big 12 Women’s Basketball Games Week 9: Texas at Texas Tech, TCU at Baylor
The Big 12 women’s basketball season hits Week 9 on Monday and after the Big 12 openers, it’s time for the first full calendar week of league action.
With two games per team per week, the schedule is slimmed down to 14 games, all in conference, until the Big 12 Tournament begins in early March in Kansas City. This week games are on Wednesday and Saturday.
Here’s the complete schedule, how to watch each game and, if you’re so inclined, the three must-watch games of the week.
Texas at Texas Tech
How To Watch: 6 p.m., Wednesday, Big 12 Now on ESPN+
It doesn’t matter how good Texas is, Texas Tech is one of those teams that gives the Longhorns fits. In fact, each of the first two seasons, coach Krista Gerlich’s Lady Raiders have beaten Texas once during league action. And TTU has done it at home and on the road. Home at United Supermarkets Arena is a more likely opportunity for the Lady Raiders, especially if guard Rori Harmon is unable to play for Texas.
TCU at Baylor
How to Watch: 7 p.m., Wednesday, Big 12 Now on ESPN+
Baylor will play its first women’s game at Foster Pavilion against the Horned Frogs, who have surprised everyone after an undefeated non-conference slate, one season after winning just one league game.
TCU’s coaching change and portal work has made it a much better team this season. But, in many ways, Baylor remains the standard in the Big 12 and Bears coach Nicki Collen may have her best all-around team in her three seasons in Waco. Throw in that kitschy “Bluebonnet Battle” rivalry thing the two schools are trying make happen and you have a shot at a quality game.
Iowa State at BYU
How to Watch: 5 p.m., Saturday, Big 12 Now on ESPN+
Iowa State has work to do in order to position itself for postseason play after the Big 12 Tournament. By this point guard Emily Ryan will have been back for a few weeks and should be closer to playing like the Ryan we know. Iowa State is an incredibly young, but talented team that needs her leadership.
BYU has the height of Lauren Gustin and the quality 3-point shooting of Kailey Woolston. It’s enough to stretch defenses and give teams fits. ISU would love nothing more than to steal one in Provo. BYU will learn quickly that a path to the postseason means protecting your home court whenever possible.
