Three Big 12 Teams Labeled ‘First Four Out’ in Latest Bracketology Update
As conference play grows closer in the Big 12 Conference, ESPN released likely their last bracketology update ahead of Big 12 play which features seven teams from the league earning an invite to the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
The seven teams listed as tournament participants are (1) Kansas, (1) Houston, (3) BYU, (5) Oklahoma, (5) Baylor, (9) Iowa State, and (11) Texas. Despite having seven teams in the bracketology update, four more Big 12 teams narrowly missed out on competing with Kansas State, TCU, and Texas Tech listed as first four out, and Cincinnati listed as next four out.
With Big 12 Conference play just around the corner, each team in the league will have a shot at claiming the title for the top team in the best basketball conference in America.
Of the seven teams that were mentioned in the update, the group currently holds a collective record of 81-9.
In the scenario listed above, the matchups based on seeding would look something like this.
(1) Kansas vs. (16) Marist
(1) Houston vs. (16) UT Martin/South Dakota State
(3) BYU vs. (14) Weber State
(5) Oklahoma vs. (12) Indiana
(5) Baylor vs. (12) Princeton
(9) Iowa State vs. (8) Ohio State
(11) Texas/New Mexico vs. (6) Alabama
While the 2024 NCAA Tournament is still nearly three months away, the seven teams listed above from the Big 12 Conference are currently passing the eye test as tournament bids, at least in the eyes of Joe Lunardi.
