Watch: Washington Players Trash Talk with Texas Fans After Sugar Bowl
In the second of two instant classics for Monday’s College Football Playoff semifinals, it was Washington who outlasted the Texas Longhorns in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, 37-31.
Despite a sequence of events that gave the Longhorns a chance to win the game from the Washington 12-yard line, Texas’ red zone offense just couldn’t get the job done in the end and fell short of an appearance in the National Championship game.
The loss ends Texas’ seasons with a 12-2 record and officially sends them into the SEC, while the victory moves No. 2 Washington to 14-0 and pits them against the other remaining undefeated, No. 1 Michigan (14-0), for a chance at a national title.
The competitive nature of college football games breeds hostility between players and fanbases, and Monday night’s game in New Orleans was no different, as things were chippy at times between the Longhorns and Huskies.
After the game concluded, Washington players stuck around to do a bit of trash-talking and even taunted some heated Texas fans after handing them their first loss since October.
First of all, Texas fans… come get your boy. Why a grown man would act that way in front of what I assume are his children is absurd. Secondly, shouldn’t the UW players be celebrating with their team instead of taunting some dude in the stands?
Either way, this is just one of several viral moments to come out of the Sugar Bowl festivities that also included a flasher on the ESPN b-roll footage and a Texas fan who may or may not have soiled himself pre-game.
It was fun while it lasted Texas fans, but now it’s onto the SEC and time for the Big 12 to set its sights on a new and exciting future.
