Woodi Washington Returning to Oklahoma Sooners for Sixth Season in 2024
The Oklahoma Sooners secondary got a big lift on Tuesday night when cornerback Woodi Washington announced on Instagram he would be staying in Norman for a sixth season.
Here’s Washington’s post that was then re-shared to X, formerly known as Twitter.
Washington announced his decision on social media with a graphic that included the phrase “run it back.” His sixth year is thanks to the extra year of eligibility afforded to players during the pandemic.
Washington started all 13 games at cornerback and led Oklahoma with seven pass breakups during the 2023 season, OU’s last in the Big 12, while finishing with 48 total tackles, including 2.5 for a loss.
Washington joins an impressive list of key defenders who have also announced their plans to return in 2024, joining safety Billy Bowman, All-America linebacker Danny Stutsman, and defensive tackles Da’Jon Terry and Jacob Lacey.
Woodi Washington is a former four-star prospect from Tennessee and was part of OU’s 6th-ranked 2019 class, according to the 247rankings. For his career, he has played in 46 games, racking up 36 starts, with 202 career tackles, 3.5 for a loss, five interceptions and 19 pass breakups.
