Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys got some excellent news on Thursday as they learned quarterback Alan Bowman had been granted an additional year of eligibility from the NCAA thanks to a medical hardship waiver.

“Alan met the criteria for an extension of his eligibility due to his season-ending injury in 2019 combined with redshirting at the University of Michigan,” OSU’s Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance Ben Dyson said in a statement. “We appreciate the assistance of the Texas Tech training staff for providing us the documentation we needed to quickly process our waiver request.”

The waiver will give Bowman his seventh year of eligibility, making him one of the most experienced players in all of college football in 2024.

With the extra year of eligibility in hand, Bowman made the announcement that everyone had been waiting for. Bowman made his announcement on Twitter Thursday afternoon, with the caption, “Let’s run it back… #GoPokes”

Bowman finished the 2023 season ranked among the Cowboys’ all-time leaders in several single-season categories including passing yards (No. 7 with 3,460), pass completions (No. 4 with 304), and yards of total offense (No. 10 with 3,484).

His passing yardage total also ranked No. 15 nationally for the 2023 season, an impressive feat considering he had limited action in the Pokes’ first three contests.

The sixth-year senior saved his best performance for last, as he threw for 402 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-23 victory over Texas A&M in the TaxAct Texas Bowl. With Bowman returning, the Pokes have nearly every impact player from the 2023 season set to come back for another round, which bodes will for their chances at a Big 12 title and Playoff appearance in 2024.
