Texas RB Jonathon Brooks to Declare for 2024 NFL Draft
Texas running back Jonathon Brooks is expected to enter the 2024 NFL Draft, according to a report from Horns247.
The Halletsville (Tex.) native had a breakout campaign in 2023 before his redshirt sophomore season was cut short by an ACL injury against TCU.
Brooks was the Longhorns’ leading rusher in 2023, amassing 1,139 yards (6.1 yards per carry) and 10 rushing touchdowns while recording 25 receptions for 286 yards and a touchdown through the air.
With his pending decision, which hasn’t been officially announced, Brooks was a topic of conversation ahead of Texas’ matchup with Washington in the Sugar Bowl.
“I don’t want to think about myself being we’re here in the playoff and my mind is focused squarely on doing whatever I can to help us win a championship, but being that I only have two weeks to decide, it’s kind of hard not to think about what’s next,” Brooks said. “The decision will come, when I’m not sure, I’m not leaning any way right now, because of how focused I am on this, I need to be where my feet are and that’s not in the NFL but with this team.”
Brooks actually began the year behind freshman CJ Baxter, who came into the fold as a five-star with all sorts of hype. However, when Brooks got his opportunity, he took it and ran with it.
Despite missing the last four games of the season, Brooks finished the year ranked No. 12 in the country in rushing yards. Now, he’ll take his talents to the next level, where he projects as a late second-round pick in the 2024 Draft.
