Gerry Bohanon to Transfer to BYU for 2024 Season
Former Baylor quarterback Gerry Bohanon will return to the Big 12 in 2024, but his one-year stay won’t be in Waco. Bohanon spent four seasons with the Bears before transferring to USF ahead of the 2022 season.
As the Bulls’ starter, Bohanon threw for 1,070 yards and six touchdowns and added 386 yards (6.4 ypc) and three scores on the ground. Unfortunately, the senior suffered a shoulder injury that forced him to have season-ending surgery after just even games.
He did not appear for the Bulls in 2023 and will have one season of eligibility remaining with the Cougars.
Bohanon made his announcement on Thursday evening via Instagram, giving Cougars fans the answer to who their starting quarterback should be in 2024.
Over the course of his five-year career, Bohanon has thrown for 3,464 yards and 26 touchdowns, adding exactly 1,000 yards and another 15 touchdowns on the ground.
It’s worth noting, however, that Bohanon didn’t start a game for Baylor until 2021, which was his best season yet. Bohanon completed 62.9% of his passes that season for 2,200 yards and 18 touchdowns with seven interceptions, adding 323 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.
An injury forced Bohanon to miss BU’s Big 12 title game appearance in 2021, and Blake Shapen beat him for the starting job in the spring prior to ’22, leading him to transfer. Now, Bohanon will make his return to the Big 12, and will also return to McLane Stadium to face the Bears during the conference slate next season.
After a disappointing first season in the Big 12, which was undoubtedly hampered by subpar quarterback play, Kalani Sitake and the Cougars hope to rebound in a big way in 2024. With Bohanon at the controls, that should be feasible, especially if they can harness his talents as a runner.
