CJ Fredrick Out, Aziz Bandaogo Game-Time Decision vs. BYU

NCAA Basketball: American Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals - Cincinnati vs Houston

While both Cincinnati and BYU are getting set to make their debut as members of the Big 12 Conference in basketball, the Bearcats will likely be operating without some of their key starters.

Senior guard CJ Fredrick and senior forward Aziz Bandaogo are both dealing with injuries ahead of the Big 12 opener, which will sideline Fredrick for the contest and list Bandaogo as a game-time decision.

While there is a chance for Bandaogo to play, CJ Fredrick is out for the matchup against the Cougars. Fredrick is averaging 7.5 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting an impressive 44% from three.

Bandaogo is reportedly dealing with a lingering back issue that could keep him out of Saturday’s game. The 7-foot forward has been a massive piece of Wes Miller’s lineup this year as the Senegal native is averaging 9.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game on 67.9% from the field.

While the matchup was already going to be tough taking on Mark Pope’s 12th-ranked BYU team, if Cincinnati takes the court without the help of their star forward, UC could be in for a long evening. Bandaogo is fresh off of two-straight double-doubles with a 10-point, 12-rebound game against Dayton on Dec. 16, and a 12-point, 17-rebound game on Dec. 12th.

The matchup between the Cincinnati Bearcats and the BYU Cougars tips off on Saturday, January 6th at 9:00 PM CT, live on ESPN2.
