Jay Wright Defends Refs Calling Flagrant Foul in TCU vs. Kansas Game

NCAA Basketball: Texas Christian at Kansas

One of the all-time great college basketball coaches of this century is defending one of the more controversial calls of the season thus far.

Former Villanova coach and current CBS analyst Jay Wright said after the Kansas vs. TCU game that the officials made the right call.

“As bad as that looked, they made the two correct calls there. That’s one of the tough things about being an official, because it just didn’t seem fair because TCU was in control,” Wright said in the post-game on CBS.

Jamie Dixon’s squad led Kansas 79-77 with 57 seconds left, but after TCU’s Ernest Udeh Jr. received a technical foul for contact with Hunter Dickinson during a loose ball, Kansas was awarded a Flagrant 1 that drastically changed the game over the final minute of action.

Kansas was given two free throws and the basketball back with less than one minute remaining, which helped spawn the comeback for the Jayhawks in their season opener. Kansas would go on and advance to 1-0 in Big 12 play, beating the TCU Horned Frogs 83-81.

No. 2 Kansas will take the court next on Wednesday, January 10th against Johnny Dawkins and the UCF Knights. Meantime, TCU is back in action on Wednesday night as well, taking on No. 11 Oklahoma at home.
