The Texas Tech Red Raiders basketball team released an official statement on the status of sophomore guard Pop Isaacs after Isaacs was accused of sexually assaulting a minor during a team trip.

The incident allegedly took place during Texas Tech’s November trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament, where Isaacs allegedly sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl.

Texas Tech released a statement on the situation Friday night which reads, “Upon learning of the allegations, the matter was immediately and properly reported to the University’s Title IX Office. The Title IX Office and its process are external to and independent from TTU Athletics. The Title IX Office’s investigation into the allegations promptly commenced. Athletics reached out to the Title IX Office on two occasions and was informed both times that based upon the information, Pop Isaacs remains in good standing, and there is no reason to withhold him from University activities, including basketball competition.”

According to a report from KCBD News, Isaacs is expected to play in Saturday’s matchup against No. 20 Texas to tip off the start of Big 12 Conference play.

Isaacs has been one of the Red Raiders’ biggest contributors this season in Lubbock. The Las Vegas native is averaging 15.8 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game and has helped lead the Red Raiders to an 11-2 start under Grant McCasland.

Grant McCasland and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are set to tip off Big 12 play on Saturday, January 6th against the 20th-ranked Texas Longhorns in Austin.
