Cincinnati Lands Former UTEP WR Transfer Tyrin Smith
Scott Satterfield and the Cincinnati Bearcats added a new name to their roster ahead of the 2024 season with the addition of former UTEP wide receiver Tyrin Smith through the transfer portal.
Smith, a former three-star JUCO prospect from Texas, spent the previous three seasons with the Miners before electing to enter the transfer portal with one year of eligibility remaining.
Smith played just four games in 2023 finishing off his senior season with 19 catches for 191 yards and a score. In 2022 however, Smith was a top receiving threat for UTEP as he finished with 71 grabs for 1,039 yards and seven touchdowns. In three seasons at UTEP, the Texas native totaled 123 catches for 1,800 yards and 12 total touchdowns.
Coming out of Cisco Junior College, Smith was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index as well as the 86th-ranked JUCO player. He also checked in as the 13th-ranked receiver in his class and the fifth-ranked player from the state of Texas.
Smith became the Bearcats’ 15th addition through the transfer portal this offseason joining Ohio State’s Joe Royer, FAU’s Tony Johnson, Indiana’s Brendan Sorsby, Eastern Michigan’s Mikah Coleman, and more.
While the college football season is still the better part of eight months away, Cincinnati kicks off their 2024 season on Saturday, August 31st against the Towson Tigers.
