Former Kansas State Duo Markquis Nowell, Keyontae Johnson Lead NBA G League All-Star Vote
While the NBA’s G League is filled with loads of big-name athletes, two of the top 10 leading vote-getters for the upcoming NBA G League Up Next Game happen to be recent members of the Big 12 Conference.
Kansas State‘s duo of Markquis Nowell and Keyontae Johnson both finished off their impressive 2022-23 run as Third-Team All-Americans and now, with an opportunity in the NBA’s G League, the duo is making their names known once again.
Former Kansas State guard Markquis Nowell is currently leading all entries for the Up Next Game, as the Raptors 905 point guard has quickly developed into one of the league’s top guards. Keyontae Johnson, forward for the OKC Blue, is currently sitting in fourth place on the list trailing his former teammate Nowell, as well as Luke Garza and Emoni Bates.
Both Nowell and Johnson picked up where they left off coming out of college with the two both averaging similar numbers to that of the previous season. As a senior in 2023, Nowell averaged 17.6 points, 8.3 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. In his first season with Raptors 905, the New York native is averaging 15.1 points, 8.8 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Johnson, a former Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year, averaged 17.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game in 2023. In his first season with the Blue, Johnson is averaging 18.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.
