Industry Source to Brett McMurphy: ‘Kansas Basketball Cheats More Than Anyone’
Kansas is playing basketball without an NCAA investigation looming over the program for the first time in years. The Jayhawks currently rank as the No. 3 team in the country, which happens to be their lowest ranking to this point in the season.
The Jayhawks are no stranger to success, and it’s not just been in recent years. Kansas is one of the most successful basketball programs in the country, having won the second-most games of any team in history. The Jayhawks also have four NCAA Tournament championships to their credit, the latest of which came in 2022.
However, if you ask most folks outside of Lawrence, there’s a stigma around the KU basketball program and it’s not particularly flattering. Plenty of people are convinced that the Jayhawks aren’t exactly playing by the same rules as everyone else, and one industry source flat-out says that Kansas cheats, and more than anyone else out there at that rate.
In a recent story from Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, an industry source was discussing the sign-stealing scandal currently going on around the Michigan Wolverines football program. During that discussion, Kansas caught some stray bullets to give context to the world of college athletics right now.
“Kansas (basketball) cheats more than anyone, and they didn’t do anything to Kansas,” the source told McMurphy, pointing out that the NCAA slapped KU on the wrist in their infractions case. “The only pure thing in college athletics is Vanderbilt, and Vanderbilt sucks.”
Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines won the 2023-24 National Championship on Monday night and did so in the wake of an investigation into the program based on evidence that Michigan was stealing signs illegally.
With college athletics changing drastically over the last several years with NIL, the transfer portal, and now the major changes to the landscape, it’s hard to recognize certain aspects of the games that we love. However, gaining a competitive advantage by any means necessary has always happened, we’re just hearing about it more nowadays. At least that’s the perception for many.
