Washington’s Kalen DeBoer is set to be named the 28th head coach at the University of Alabama, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Sourced have indicated to Thamel that DeBoer has informed Washington officials that he is taking the job at Alabama and is expected to officially inform his team shortly.

DeBoer, 49, will now become the head coach at the most successful program in college football after an incredible two-year stint at Washington. In 2023, he led the Huskies to a Pac-12 Championship, Sugar Bowl Championship, and an appearance in the National Championship, finishing the season with a 14-1 record.

DeBoer’s record with the Huskies was 25-3, and his overall record as a head coach is 104-12 (.897) during stints at Sioux Falls (2005-09), Fresno State (2020-21), and Washington (2022-23).

He’ll now be expected to keep winning at that rate in the SEC, as his predecessor went 201-29 (.874) over 17 seasons and appeared in nine national championship games in that span, winning six of them.

With DeBoer headed to Tuscaloosa, the Big 12 could see some serious turnover at the coaching position. Several Big 12 coaches, including Lance Leipold and Chris Klieman, are on the shortlist according to Thamel.

Welcome to coaching carousel season, folks. Buckle up and try to enjoy the ride.
