Former Memphis Guard Mikey Williams Transfers to UCF
Johnny Dawkins and the UCF Knights are having one heck of a week coming off of one of the biggest wins in program history over No. 3 Kansas. That being said, Friday afternoon’s news may take the cake for an even bigger story.
Former four-star, top-40 prospect Mikey Williams announced his decision to transfer to UCF after leaving Memphis in the transfer portal.
Williams was not only one of the top prospects in the Class of 2023 alongside the likes of Bronny James and Isiah Collier, but he is also an internet sensation with over 3.6 million Instagram followers.
Coming out of high school, Williams was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index as well as the nation’s 39th-ranked prospect. He also was listed as the eighth-ranked combo guard in his class and the eighth-ranked player in the state of California.
While Williams was expected to be one of the nation’s top freshmen in 2023, the California native did not suit up for Memphis this season due to legal issues. Williams was charged with a gun charge in November which could be reduced to a misdemeanor according to 247Sports’ Eric Bossi.
UCF takes the court next on Saturday, January 13th at 3:00 PM CT against Mark Pope and the No. 18 BYU Cougars.
