Arizona’s Jedd Fisch Emerges as ‘Top Target’ for Washington Job
As the Washington coaching search continues to dominate headlines across the world of college football, one name from a future Big 12 school appears to be emerging as the front-runner in the eyes of the Huskies.
According to a Sunday report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Arizona Head Coach Jedd Fisch has emerged as the top target for the Washington head coaching vacancy.
Fisch interviewed for the Washington job on Saturday afternoon, according to a report from Wildcat Authority’s Jason Scheer. Scheer also noted that the Huskies were initially pursuing Kansas’ head coach Lance Leipold, but elected to turn down the opportunity and stay in Lawrence. Fisch then returned as the Huskies’ primary candidate and conducted a second interview with the team to iron out the remaining details on Sunday afternoon.
Fisch was one of the most impressive coaches in all of college football in 2023 leading the Wildcats to a 10-3 record and capping the season off with a victory over No. 12 Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl.
Before joining the Wildcats in 2021, Fisch spent time at multiple different positions across both the college level and professional level including stops at Florida, Minnesota, Miami, Michigan, and UCLA as well as the Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, and the New England Patriots.
The loss for Arizona fans would be a big one as all signs pointed towards Fisch returning in 2024 to coach as a member of the Big 12 Conference.
Following the win over Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl, Fisch expressed his appreciation for his title saying, “I love our players, and I think the reason why we can do what we do is because our players stay and our players work hard and our players believe. Where else would you rather be than go try to be in the top 10 or better next year?”
