Chris Klieman to Remain at Kansas State, Despite Washington Rumors
While the Washington Huskies continue to conduct their coaching search to replace Kalen DeBore, one Big 12 coach announced on Sunday that he is not interested in accepting a new job.
Kansas State Head Coach Chris Klieman told The Forum’s Mike McFeely that he is not interested in the Washington job and plans to remain at Kansas State.
Klieman emerged as a candidate for the job opening on Friday after being included on a list that featured a total of six Big 12 coaches from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
The Wildcat head coach shut down rumors of a possible job change telling The Forum that his family considerations and working in tandem with Athletic Director Gene Taylor will keep him at Kansas State, in addition to many other compelling reasons.
Klieman is entering his sixth year in Manhattan after being hired to replace legendary coach Bill Snyder. Klieman was given the opportunity by his former NDSU AD Gene Taylor who accepted the job at Kansas State one season prior.
Under Chris Klieman, the Wildcats have recorded an overall record of 39-24 and are coming off of back-to-back nine-win seasons. While the vacancy at Washington looks to be a compelling opening for most coaches in the nation, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the future of Kansas State.
The Wildcats are entering the 2024 season with a new quarterback under center in former four-star quarterback and freshman phenom Avery Johnson, who led the Wildcats to a win in the 2023 Pop-Tarts Bowl over NC State.
While multiple Big 12 coaches may have been connected to the opening in the initial release, Chris Klieman reaffirmed his commitment to Kansas State, and to the future of the Big 12 Conference.
