Kansas Leads Eight Big 12 Teams in Latest AP Basketball Poll

Eight Big 12 teams were among the nation’s best as the Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25 was released after the season’s 10th week of games.

The Big 12 ranked teams included:

Kansas at No. 3 (No. 3 last week);

Houston at No. 5 (No. 2 last week);

 

Baylor at No. 9 (No. 14 last week);

Oklahoma at No. 15 (No. 9 last week).

TCU at No. 19 (not ranked last week)

BYU at No. 20 (No. 18 last week);

Iowa State at No. 24 (not ranked last week)

Texas Tech at No. 25 (not ranked last week)

Texas dropped out of the Top 25 (No. 25 last week);

Kansas (14-2, 2-1) lost its first Big 12 road game on Wednesday after it dropped a 65-60 decision to Big 12 newcomer UCF. Kansas followed that with a win at home over Oklahoma, 78-66. Kansas will travel to Oklahoma State on Tuesday and West Virginia on Saturday.   

Houston (14-2, 1-2) suffered its first two losses of the season in back-to-back Big 12 road games, falling to Iowa State, 57-53, and TCU, 68-67. Houston was the nation’s last undefeated team. The Cougars host Big 12 co-leader Texas Tech on Wednesday, followed by a home game with UCF on Saturday.  

Baylor (14-2, 3-0) beat a pair of Big 12 newcomers to remain undefeated in league action, defeated BYU, 81-72, and Cincinnati, 62-59. The Bears get back to facing more familiar teams this week with a road trip to Kansas State on Tuesday, followed by a trip to Texas on Saturday.

Oklahoma (13-3, 1-2) lost both of its game last week, falling to TCU, 80-71, on Wednesday and Kansas, 78-66, on Saturday. The Sooners will attempt to bounce back when they host West Virginia on Wednesday and travel to Cincinnati on Saturday.  

 

BYU (13-3, 1-2) dropped an 81-72 decision to Baylor on Tuesday and followed that with their first Big 12 win at UCF, 63-58. The Cougars host Iowa State on Tuesday and travel to Texas Tech on Saturday.

TCU (13-3, 2-1) enters the Top 25 this week after beating two Top 10 teams — Oklahoma, 80-71, and Houston, 68-67. The Horned Frogs are in Cincinnati on Tuesday and then host Iowa State on Saturday.

Iowa State (13-3, 2-1) enters the poll this week after upsetting Houston, 57-53, and then beating Oklahoma State, 66-42. The Cyclones travel to BYU on Tuesday and then travel to TCU on Saturday.

Texas Tech (14-2, 3-0) enters the Top 25 this week after sweeping Oklahoma State, 88-73, and Kansas State, 60-59. Texas Tech heads to Houston on Wednesday followed by a home game with BYU on Saturday.   

Texas (12-4, 1-2) started last week with a one-point win over Cincinnati, 74-73, but then lost to West Virginia on the road, 76-73. The Longhorns are home all week, as they host UCF on Wednesday and Baylor on Saturday.
