Pat McAfee Discusses the Possibility of Arch Manning Entering Transfer Portal
While Texas quarterback Arch Manning has continually reaffirmed his commitment to the Texas Longhorns this offseason, many fans have kicked around the idea of Manning entering the transfer portal since news broke of Quinn Ewers’ return to the Longhorns in 2024.
ESPN’s Pat McAfee discussed the likelihood of Arch Manning entering the portal with former Longhorn quarterback Colt McCoy, where the two provided some insight into how the Manning family feels about the situation in Austin.
“I got a chance to see [The Manning’s] operate, we get to operate alongside them now a few different times a year,” McAfee said. “When Arch went to Texas, they were completely cool with him redshirting, and even if he’s supposed to sit another year there’s not even a thought of him going in the portal. They’re like ‘Yep, the boy needs to learn anyway.’ Obviously, they’re in a situation financially where they can do that, and Arch is going to get an opportunity with the NFL no matter what, but I appreciate the fact the Mannings are like ‘No, let the boy sit.'”
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers announced his decision to return to Texas on January 11th which increased speculation of Manning entering his name in the portal.
Manning spoke on the rumors surrounding his future at the Sugar Bowl media day ahead of the matchup with Washington where he said, “Obviously there’s always rumors, especially nowadays. I haven’t looked into transferring at all. I’m just focused on developing and helping this team any way I can and hopefully, one day playing for the University of Texas like I’ve always wanted to.”
While rumors surrounding the transfer portal will likely continue until Arch takes the field, the Longhorns kick off their 2024 season on Saturday, August 31st against the Colorado State Rams.
