Arizona Hires Brent Brennan as Next Head Coach: Report
It was a tough week for the Arizona football program after Jedd Fisch left the Wildcats to take over at Washington ahead of the 2024 season.
Not only did they lose their head coach, but starting running back Jonah Coleman also entered the transfer portal, the first major contributor to leave following Fisch’s exit from the program, and more are expected to follow.
However, Arizona fans hope that better news is on the horizon and now they at least know who the year coach will be heading into their first season in the NFL.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Wildcats have agreed to a five-year deal with Brent Brennan to make him the next head coach at Arizona.
Brennan has spent each of the last seven seasons as the head coach at San Jose State and was a finalist for the Arizona job when Jed Fisch was hired ahead of the 2021 season.
Over the last four seasons, the 50-year-old head coach has led the Spartans to a 26-19 record and three bowl game appearances. Brennan has ties to the Arizona program and is familiar with Tucson as he spent time under Dick Tomey as a graduate assistant in 2000. He also coached under Tomey at SJSU as an assistant coach.
Now, Brennan will take center stage for a program that was set to bring back one of the hottest names in coaching circles and 18 of 22 starters from a 10-3 football team. Will he be able to keep things held together and make the Wildcats a Big 12 contender in year one? We will have to wait and see.
