West Virginia F Patrick Suemnick Sick Ahead of Oklahoma Game
While Josh Eilert and the West Virginia Mountaineers got a big lift against No. 25 Texas from junior forward Patrick Suemnick, the team could be heading into Wednesday’s matchup against No. 15 Oklahoma without the addition of Suemnick.
According to a Tuesday report from West Virginia Sports Now’s Ethan Bock, Suemnick came down with an illness on Tuesday morning and will be reevaluated during the team’s trip to Norman.
Eilert spoke about the situation on Tuesday at a press conference ahead of the game saying, “I get a text this morning that he’s come up with an illness too so he’s going to be checked out by the doctors and trainers this morning to see what he’s got going on. We’ll try to isolate him as much as we can as we travel up to Pittsburgh.”
Suemnick helped lead the Mountaineers to a 76-73 win over Texas on Saturday where he recorded an impressive stat line of 16 points, six rebounds, and one assist in his second career start. This season at West Virginia, the Wisconsin native is averaging 4.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in 13.3 minutes per game.
“It’s that time of the year,” Eilert said. “You never know when you’re going to get that call in the morning that somebody came down with something. Sounds like Pat is that guy today.”
Despite the possibility of missing one of their key starters, the Mountaineers take the court on Wednesday, January 17th against the No. 15 Oklahoma Sooners in Norman.
