Four Big 12 Teams In Preseason D1Baseball Top 25
The 2024 college baseball season is just a few weeks away and the Big 12 is hoping to send a representative to Omaha once again.
The conference has sent at least one team to the College World Series in every tournament dating back to 2014, and 2024 should be no different as the Big 12 appears to be rife with contenders.
D1Baseball released its Preseason Top 25 poll on Tuesday, with four teams from the league appearing on the list ahead of the season.
TCU picks up right where it left off last season, coming in at No. 5 in the initial poll. The Horned Frogs made a run to Omaha in Kirk Saarloos’ second season and will return a strong offensive unit and deep pitching staff this year. The Frogs should be a legit national title contender this season, and are the favorite in the Big 12.
Texas is the next Big 12 squad on the list, checking in at No. 16 after finishing the 2023 season at No. 14. The Longhorns are coming off a run to the Super Regionals last season, which ended in one of the most unforgettable moments of the season. UT returns a host of veterans and should be a team that challenges for another deep run in the CWS.
Texas Tech checks in at No. 21 after ending the 2023 season just outside the Top 25. After a 41-23 campaign, the Red Raiders are looking to take a step forward and get back to Omaha for the first time since 2019.
Kansas State is the final team in the Big 12 to crack the initial Top 25 poll, coming in at No. 24 after a 35-24 season last year. The Wildcats return a three-headed monster in Brady Day, Kaelen Culpepper, and Tyson Neighbors, who happens to be one of the best closers in college baseball. Pete Hughes has done an excellent job building this program and 2024 might be the year that it all comes together.
