Social Media Reacts to Rodney Terry Complaining About UCF’s ‘Horns Down’
While much of the drama surrounding the “Horns Down” movement has been reserved for the football field up to this point, an upset win inside the Moody Center on Wednesday night escalated it in the realm of men’s basketball now as well, and it’s got Texas head coach Rodney Terry in a tizzy.
UCF (11-5, 2-2) went into Austin and took down the Longhorns (12-5, 1-3) after erasing a 15-point deficit to win 77-71. While the game itself will have plenty of impact on the Big 12 race, what happened after the final seconds ticked off the scoreboard is what has taken the college basketball world by storm as of Thursday morning.
In the handshake line after the game, Terry was seen telling UCF players that their antics were “classless,” and at one point told them, “Don’t do that sh*t.”
Terry’s rant wasn’t done though, as he addressed the issue once more when he met with media for the postgame press conference. There, he drove home the message that there’s a right way to win, and how UCF did it on Wednesday night wasn’t the right way to do things.
This is quite funny, considering the way Terry reacted to his loss to UCF is quite literally the textbook definition of being a sore loser…
I’m not the first to say this, and I certainly won’t be the last, but this is about as soft as it gets in college athletics. The “Horns Down” gesture has the same connotations as the “L” gesture or a middle finger from other fan bases. The other teams in the country have to deal with it, so what makes Texas so special?
Having a response like Terry did on Wednesday night only serves to make the situation worse for the Longhorns going forward, and the reactions on social media further prove that point.
