Hunter Dickinson Teases Return to Kansas: ‘The Extra Year is There for a Reason’
Kansas center Hunter Dickinson is one of the biggest names in collegiate basketball. Since transferring to Kansas for his senior season, Dickinson has put his name well into the conversation to take home the Wooden Award in 2023-24. All Wooden Award Betting is also available to Big 12 basketball fans as the season progresses.
While Dickinson is currently averaging All-American level numbers for the Jayhawks, fans have been wondering about the possibility of the Virginia native returning in 2024-25 which the senior center discussed in a recent podcast appearance.
Dickinson sat down for an interview with Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68 Podcast where he floated a question about Dickinson’s future plans which prompted the response, “The extra year is there for a reason. And so there’s definitely… the door is open for it.”
Dickinson continued by saying, “Obviously if we win it all, there’s not many more times when you get to leave on the highest of highs. College is fun. I’ve had a ton of fun in college. That’s one of the main reasons why I’ve stayed.”
While the senior has had multiple opportunities to leave college early and enter the NBA Draft, he has elected to stay in school and allow his game to develop.
Through 17 games of his senior season, Dickinson is averaging 19.3 points and 11.7 rebounds on 60.7% shooting from the field. While his 7-foot-2, 260-pound frame allows him to be incredible effective on the low block, he is also shooting a blistering 44.4% from three-point land.
Dickinson finished off the conversation by saying, “I also do feel like staying these four years has gotten me ready, so if I were to leave, I feel like I’d be ready enough now at this stage in my career.”
Dickinson and the Jayhawks hit the court next on Saturday, January 20th to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers at 3:00 PM CT, live on ESPN+.
