Illinois Lands 2025 Four-Star PG Jeremiah Fears Over Kansas

NCAA Basketball: Kansas at Michigan State

While the Kansas Jayhawks found their way into the final cutdown list for 2025 four-star point guard Jeremiah Fears, the Arizona native elected to commit to Brand Underwood and Illinois instead of Bill Self and Kansas.

Kansas was one of five schools in the running for Fears and was joined on the list by Illinois, Providence, Ole Miss, and Michigan.

Coming out of high school, Fears was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index as well as the nation’s 31st-ranked player. He also checked in as the seventh-ranked combo guard in his class as well as the second-ranked player in the state of Arizona.

“I chose Illinois because I felt it was the best fit for me,” Fears said in a recent interview with On3’s Joe Tipton. “It’s my home state and the coaches have been recruiting me since I was in the 8th grade. I feel like most people think if you are a high level player you have to go to a blue blood to be successful. I want to show everybody you can do it from anywhere especially your home state. Hometown Hero.”

While Bill Self and the Jayhawks were unable to land Fears in the Class of 2025, the Jayhawks should find themselves mentioned in conversations surrounding top prospects for years to come.

Kansas will take the court next on Monday, January 22nd against Wes Miller and the Cincinnati Bearcats in Lawrence.
