Josh Eilert and the West Virginia Mountaineers are set to get one of their top players back on the court in the near future with senior center Jesse Edwards due to return following a wrist injury.

According to a Monday report from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, Edwards is set to make his return soon, but his status for Tuesday’s matchup against UCF is still up in the air.

Edwards suffered an injury to his wrist in December and has been sidelined since the Mountaineers’ 87-79 loss to UMass on the 16th.

While Eilert’s squad has struggled at times this season, the team has found a way to weather the storm and compete with some of the top teams in the Big 12 Conference. West Virginia currently sports an overall record of 7-11 and 2-3 in conference play, good for eighth place in the league. On Saturday, West Virginia took down No. 3 Kansas 91-85 at home in one of the biggest upsets of the season, all of which was done without one of their top players.

Edwards has seen action in 10 games this season and currently averages 14.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game on 55.7% shooting from the field. While the loss of Edwards was a big one, with the Mountaineers supporting cast hitting their stride over the past few games, the team could make a serious run pending Edward’s return.

West Virginia will take the court next on Tuesday, January 23rd at 6:00 PM CT against Johnny Dawkins and the UCF Knights in Orlando.
