Cincinnati Head Coach Wes Miller Hates the Word ‘Funk’
Cincinnati Head Coach Wes Miller is not a fan of funk, and no, we’re not talking about music.
Following the Bearcats’ 75-69 loss to Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks, Miller was asked about what his team had to do in order to break out of their funk. Miller then responded with an epic rant about the word funk and how it does not apply to his team.
“Yeah I don’t think we’re in a funk, I just think we’re not converting,” Miller said. “We have a resilient bunch. They don’t pout, they don’t put their head down, they come back to work every day. The funk word pisses me off. I don’t think anybody that’s watched our team play this year would say we’ve ever had a damn funk. We just ain’t converting. We’ve not converted layups a lot in the last couple of weeks, we’ve missed a lot of free throws, and we’ve missed some open looks. It ain’t a funk.”
While Wes Miller’s team wound up on the losing end of Monday’s matchup against No. 7 Kansas, the team has had some big moments to start off their first year in the Big 12 Conference. The Bearcats started off 2-2 through their first four games with wins over No. 21 BYU and TCU and losses to Texas and No. 15 Baylor. After a tough stretch of losses to No. 11 Oklahoma and No. 7 Kansas, UC now finds itself sitting with a conference record of 2-4.
Miller finished his thoughts by saying, “We’ll convert them, we’ve got good players. I really like my team and I’m proud of my team.”
Cincinnati will now look to bounce back on Saturday, January 27th as Wes Miller’s squad gets set to host Johnny Dawkins and the UCF Knights at the Fifth Third Arena.
