Kansas Football Fans Can Rest Easy After Michigan’s Statement on Head Coaching Search
With Jim Harbaugh leaving the Michigan Wolverines for the Los Angeles Chargers, speculation has begun as to who might replace the legendary head coach who just won a National Championship.
And before Harbaugh even left, Big 12 coaches like Lance Leipold and Chris Klieman were making the short list as potential Michigan targets. Leipold always seemed like a more realistic target to try and pry away from Lawrence, especially since Klieman’s roots at K-State are deeper and he remains very close with his athletic director, Gene Taylor, who is a good friend.
But some good news came for both fan bases on Wednesday night, when Michigan athletic director Wade Manuel put out a statement saying, “We are working quickly to hire the next head coach for the program and will do everything possible to keep this current staff and team together.”
That points to one candidate: Michigan offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore.
Moore is only 37 years old, but filled in for Harbaugh during his suspension this season with Top 10 wins against Penn State and Ohio State to close out the regular season and claim the Big Ten regular season title. He’s been with the program for six season.
So for Kansas fans, and K-State fans to a lesser extent, try not to buy into the “lists” that come out showing your coaches as Michigan targets. As of now, there appears to be one target, and one target only. And that’s Sherrone Moore.
