Kansas State was Concerned Iowa State was Spying on Their Timeouts: Report
The drama that unfolded after the Kansas State vs. Iowa State basketball game on Wednesday night was apparently tied to alleged spying, according to the Kansas City Star’s Kellis Robinett.
Jerome Tang and TJ Otzelberger had a lengthy interaction after Iowa State’s win in Ames, which many assumed was related to fan interaction behind the KSU bench.
Then, during his postgame press conference, Tang addressed the exchange in front of the scorer’s table.
“Nothing happened,” Tang said. “We talked about a situation that took place during the game. He (Otzelberger) said he would check into it. I told him thank you and went on.”
According to Robinett, the real concern was related to the possibility that Iowa State had placed managers or other team representatives behind the visiting bench where they could monitor, view or even record Kansas State during timeouts. K-State coaches were then concerned that the information could be relayed via text message to the Iowa State bench.
While there’s no confirmation yet on what exactly transpired, this wouldn’t be the first time gamesmanship made its way into college athletics. College football just spent the last few months dealing with the Jim Harbaugh and Connor Stalion investigation.
But now that this report has been floated out there, TJ Otzelberger and Iowa State will be undoubtedly asked about it in a future press conference. And we’ll see where this story goes from there.
Oh and for those wondering, Iowa State is 12-0 at home and 2-2 on the road this season. And if nothing else, it’s a great, new chapter for Farmageddon on the hardwood.
