PFF’s Top Returning Offensive Big 12 Football Players in 2024

NCAA Football: Duke's Mayo Bowl-North Carolina at West Virginia

It’s never too early to talk about the 2024 college football season. Even though we are in full swing with basketball, there are still plenty of talking points going into the next football season.

While all the focus is on the NFL Draft with the Senior Bowl coming up, I decided to take a look at the top returning Big 12 players on offense according to grades from Pro Football Focus.

Here are the top returning offensive players at each position.

West Virginia QB Garrett Greene (91.0)

This one came as a bit of a surprise to me. There are some good quarterbacks in this conference, but it seems like Greene’s running ability is what put him on top. Garrett had the third-highest run grade (85.9) for all quarterbacks last season. He also was the eighth highest-graded quarterback in 2023 and will come into 2024 as a top-five graded quarterback.

Texas Tech RB Tahj Brooks (90.1)

If you are looking for a bulldozer running back, then look no further. Last season Tahj Brooks led all Power Five running backs with 96 missed tackles forced. He was the second-leading rusher in the Big 12 with 1,538 yards and has a chance to become the all-time leading rusher in Texas Tech history in 2024.

Arizona WR Tetairoa McMillan (87.5)

We have our first Big 12 newcomer on the list with Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan. For those who aren’t familiar with him, he had the fifth most receiving yards in college football last season with over 1,400 yards and ten touchdowns. He enters the 2024 season as a top-ten-graded receiver.

Houston TE Malik Carr (81.9)

The Michigan State transfer comes to Houston as the sixth-highest-graded tight end from last season. Carr was the second-leading for the Spartans in 2023, picking up 352 yards on 30 catches and adding three touchdowns. It is going to be interesting to see if he can boost those numbers at Houston going into next season.

Cincinnati C Gavin Gerhardt (73.4)

With West Virginia’s Zach Frazier off to the NFL, Gavin Gerhardt is the highest-graded returning center in the Big 12. In his thirteen starts last season, Gavin had the sixth highest run blocking grade in 2023 (79.7) and will be a staple of Cincinnati’s offensive line in 2024.

Texas Tech G Davion Carter (82.7)

Forget about being the top-graded guard in the Big 12, Davion Carter is going to end up being the highest-graded returning guard in all of college football next season. The Memphis was a starter for two seasons before entering the transfer portal last November. He looks to be like a big addition to a Texas Tech offensive line that needs some help to pave running lanes for Tahj Brooks in 2024.

West Virginia T Wyatt Milum (80.4)

For the last two seasons, Wyatt Milum has played a big part in West Virginia’s offense. After starting in all their games last season, Wyatt was one of the highest-graded tackles in the Big 12. With several big-time tackles declaring for the NFL Draft, Wyatt will be one of the highest-graded tackles in all of college football who are returning in 2024.
