No. 4 Houston Leads Eight Big 12 Teams in Latest AP Basketball Poll
Eight Big 12 teams were among the nation’s best as the Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25 was released after the season’s 12th week of games.
The Big 12 ranked teams included:
Houston at No. 4 (No. 4 last week);
Kansas at No. 8 (No. 7 last week);
Iowa State at No. 12 (No. 23 last week)
Texas Tech at No. 15 (No. 20 last week)
Baylor at No. 18 (No. 15 last week);
BYU at No. 22 (No. 21 last week);
Oklahoma at No. 23 (No. 11 last week).
TCU at No. 25 (not ranked last week)
Houston (18-2, 5-2) claimed its first Big 12 road win at BYU, 75-68, and followed it up by dismantling Kansas State at home, 74-52. Houston is on the road at Texas on Monday and then at Kansas on Saturday.
Kansas (16-4, 4-3) split last week, as the Jayhawks beat Cincinnati, 74-69, but lost to Iowa State, 79-75. Kansas will host Oklahoma State on Tuesday and then Houston on Saturday.
Iowa State (16-4, 5-2) swept at home last week, beating Kansas State, 78-67, and Kansas, 79-75. The Cyclones have a mid-week bye before traveling to Baylor on Saturday.
Texas Tech (16-3, 5-1) had a mid-week bye and went to Oklahoma and beat the Sooners, 85-84, on Saturday. This week OU is at TCU on Tuesday and hosts Cincinnati on Saturday.
Baylor (14-5, 3-3) had a mid-week bye and played one game last week, falling to TCU in triple overtime, 105-102, to lose its third straight game by one possession. Baylor is at UCF on Wednesday and hosts Iowa State on Saturday.
BYU (15-5, 3-4) fell to Houston, 75-68, and then beat Texas, 84-72, last week. Both games were in Provo. This week the Cougars have a mid-week bye before traveling to face West Virginia on Saturday.
Oklahoma (15-5, 3-4) lost both of its games last week at home, as the Sooners fell to Texas, 75-60, and Texas Tech, 85-84. Oklahoma goes on the road this week as it travels to Kansas State on Tuesday and UCF on Saturday.
TCU (15-5, 4-3) swept last week, beating Oklahoma State, 74-69, and Baylor, 105-102, the latter in triple overtime. TCU will host Texas Tech on Tuesday and then Texas on Saturday.
