No. 4 Kansas, No. 5 Houston Lead Six Big 12 Teams in AP Top 25

Six Big 12 teams were among the nation’s best as the Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25 was released after the season’s 13th week of games.

The Big 12 ranked teams included:

Kansas at No. 4 (No. 8 last week);

Houston at No. 5 (No. 4 last week);

Baylor at No. 13 (No. 18 last week);

 

Iowa State at No. 14 (No. 12 last week)

BYU at No. 21 (No. 22 last week);

Texas Tech at No. 23 (No. 15 last week)

Oklahoma dropped out of the Top 25 (No. 23 last week).

TCU dropped out of the Top 25 (No. 25 last week)

Kansas (18-4, 6-3) moved back into a first-place tie in the conference with an 83-54 win over Oklahoma State and a 78-65 win over Houston. Kansas is at Kansas State on Monday and then hosts Baylor on Saturday.

Houston (19-3, 6-3) started last week with an overtime road win over Texas, 76-72, but fell to Kansas, 78-65, in its first matchup with the perennial Big 12 leader. The Cougars are at home against Oklahoma State on Tuesday, followed by a road trip to Cincinnati on Saturday.

Baylor (16-5, 5-3) snapped its three-game losing streak and won both games last week, beating UCF, 77-69, in Orlando and then beating Iowa State, 70-68, at home. The Bears host Texas Tech on Tuesday, followed by a road trip to Kansas on Saturday.

Iowa State (16-5, 5-3) played just one game last week and fell to Baylor, 70-68, in Waco. The Cyclones are in Austin to face Texas on Tuesday and then return to Hilton Coliseum to host TCU on Saturday.

 

BYU (16-5, 4-4) was off during the mid-week but returned to the floor to beat West Virginia on the road, 86-73. The Cougars are at Oklahoma on Tuesday and then travel to Kansas State on Saturday.

Texas Tech (16-5, 5-3) hit its first significant speed bump of the season, losing both games last week. The Red Raiders fell to TCU, 85-78, and Cincinnati, 75-72, the latter game at home. This week the Red Raiders are at Baylor on Tuesday and host UCF on Saturday.  

Oklahoma (16-6, 4-5) started last week by beating Kansas State on the road, 73-53. But, the Sooners could not take that magic with them to Orlando, where they fell to UCF, 74-63. The Sooners host BYU on Tuesday and then Oklahoma State on Saturday.

TCU (16-6, 5-4) split for the week. The Horned Frogs extended their win streak to three games with an 85-78 win over Texas Tech, and then fell to Texas, 77-66. TCU is off during the mid-week and then picks up action at Iowa State on Saturday.
