Oklahoma football threw itself into the spotlight on Sunday by putting out a video claiming that the path to the Super Bowl runs through Norman.
Featuring a voice-over from former Sooner Gerald McCoy, the video highlighted NFL stars like Baker Mayfield, CeeDee Lamb, Kyler Murray, and more while also showcasing six former Sooners in Super Bowl 58.
Despite the fact that Oklahoma hasn’t fielded a Super Bowl-winning quarterback since Troy Aikman, who transferred to UCLA after his sophomore year, Oklahoma decided that Super Bowl 58 was the perfect time to attempt to steal the stage.
Of the six players taking the field in Sunday night’s matchup between the Chiefs and 49ers, four former Sooners play for Kansas City and two for San Francisco. Blake Bell, Creed Humphrey, Wanya Morris, and James Winchester will represent the Chiefs, while Trent Williams and Brayden Willis take the field for the 49ers.
Unfortunately for fans of the Big 12, the “path to the Super Bowl” now belongs in SEC country, per OU. This despite the fact that both star quarterbacks and a cast of 17 other players will be representing the Big 12 Conference on the main stage.
Sunday’s matchup between Kansas City and San Francisco kicks off at 5:30 PM CT on CBS.
